Find Christmas Support

Christmas can be a stressful time of year but know that when you reach out, we are here to help. Everyone needs help sometimes, and we want to help you feel the spirit of the season and know the comfort and joy of the holidays.

How we help

Across Nova Scotia, our member agencies are working hard to provide food at Christmas. In HRM we operate a Christmas Registry which matches requests for support with food and gift resources in the community. Last year, in HRM alone, over 6000 households reached out for a little extra help.

How to get help if you live outside of Halifax Regional Municipality

How to get help if you live in Halifax Regional Municipality

The ways to apply to the Christmas Registry for support listed below.

To apply if you are on income assistance:
The Department of Community Services will mail you a yellow Christmas application form. You can complete this form and mail it to the address noted on the application as soon as you receive it. If you did not receive a form please contact your caseworker.

Alternatively you can apply for support in person at your local food bank, or Salvation Army. There you will be asked to fill in an application form. Please bring along some form of ID for you and everyone living in your household.

To apply if you are not on income assistance:
You do not have to be on income assistance to qualify for support.
Please apply for support in person at either your local food bank or Salvation Army. They will help you complete an application form. Please bring along ID for you and everyone living in your household.

How will I know if I'm being supported?

  • If you applied at a Salvation Army they will inform you where and when your support will be available.
  • If you applied though a food bank your request will be matched up with appropriate support and someone will call you between November 20th and December 8th to advise you of where and when support can be collected.
